Floor - Fit Only

Interior designers agree on one thing: there’s nothing quite as durably stylish as good-quality tiles carefully chosen, well-designed and properly applied.

Always plan the design and layout of tiled floors on paper first, especially if you are going to mix shapes and designs. Take account of the fixtures and fittings in the room as the design will have to work alongside these features. Try to avoid patterned tiles at internal corners where they will have to be cut and the beauty of the design could be lost. Also try to avoid using a quarter or less of a tile on an end wall, as the small parts are very difficult to accurately cut without breaking the small end section. Remember to remove an inward opening door before starting to tile the room because the tiling will raise the level of the floor. Adjustments will be required before re-hanging the doors. Also remove any cupboard doors at floor level before starting.

  • Open Question: remove paint on bathroom tiles?

the previous occupants where i live have decided to paint the bathroom tiles with emulsion which is now flaking off and looking terrible. any ideas on how to remove this paint without damaging the tiles? i have tried using bleach which has worked to a certain extent and haven't really got the budget to afford nitromors. so need ideas that are quite inexpensive.

  • Open Question: my pipes are frozen and i have no heating, what are my landlords responsibilities?

pipes have frozen in my rented house leaving me with no water and no heating. a plumber has come to look and told me i'll just have to wait for them to thaw which may end up with a pipe bursting. this same thing happend last year and ended up with my kitchen flooding when the pipe burst. the kitchen is an extention above which is a mini loft, this is where the pipes froze last year as there was no insulation. the pipes in there were insulated afterwards but it is still a freezing cold room with no other insulation, u can even see sky through the gaps in the tiled roof its the same in the main loft, no insulation at all and again can see sky through gaps. is there anything i can make my landlord do? this has happend 2 years running and is doing my head in. i am also using a small electric heater in the small loft to try and warm it up a bit so this is going to add to my electric bill it is an old house, built in the 1800's
