  • Resolved Question: i am looking for a tree that will give me some privacy that doe not have a root that will pop up everywhere?

i am about to lay a block paved driveway and on the border i want to plant some trees for privacy but i am worried that the roots will cause the paving to lift or cause other damage to it

  • Resolved Question: thickness of flag/block paving for driveway?

Hi. I am getting a firm to lay a new back yard for me. I will occassionally park my car there. I dont really like the block paving designs i've seen and prefer the riven paving stones. However, by contractor tells me that they are not thick enough (30mm or so) to support a vehicle and he is recommending a minimum of 50mm, ideally 60mm. Does anyone have an opinion on this? Is the difference between 30 and 50 mm really that important?!

  • Resolved Question: Remedy for clearing block-pave driveway?

I have a long block-paved drive that continually sprouts moss and weeds. I have cleaned between the bricks, using a wire brush, have used weedkillers like 'roundup' and 'resolve', have on a suggestion, applied a diluted mixture of bleach (4 to 1) but nothing stops the growth. Any other suggestions please?

  • Resolved Question: What is this paved path drain?

hi all I’ve just bought a house which has a weird drain down the paving next to the house Please see pics below http://www.flickr.com/photos/23696526@N08/4685166669/ The other day this was over flown with water due to the bad storm however I don’t know if this is a drain or just a hole that’s been dug to allow surface water to run off However I was prodding this with a garden cane to see if blocked and could feel what felt like soil and mud, after this a checked a couple of hours later and it had stopped being flooded and left some water in the pipe The inside under the lid looks like this http://www.flickr.com/photos/23696526@N08/4685800548/ Also near the driveway there is a long rectangular grate which just appears to capture run off water and it just has an oval hole in the centre, which is full of soil indecently. Any idea’s if these drain into a sewer or just let water go into the soil and drain naturally.

  • Resolved Question: driveway-how to lay down slabs/flags?

hi thinking about doing driveway cheap so someone suggested instead of paving the whole driveway, why not just lay down 2 rows of slabs where the car wheel will drive onto and perhaps put gravel in between and grass all the way round...i know how to lay gravel but how do u lay slabs, is it weed membrane, sand, then slabs?
