General Plumbing - Pipe-Work, Taps, etc

General pipe work consists of leaks, repairing or fitting taps and radiators or perhaps even doing a general assesment of a properties plumbing. All jobs which could be considered less time consuming could be considered small.

plumbing heating boilers taps radiators leaks repairs

Plumbing undertakes a large sphere of work. Work associated with the provision of water supply pipework including that used for fire fighting and kitchens;  all forms of space heating, gas installation, sanitary appliances, discharge pipework and drainage; the weathering of structures and buildings. Some plumbers work as 'wet only plumbers', dealing with piped systems for water such as installing radiators, installing bathroom suites and showers. Others decide to take additional plumbing courses and branch out into the gas trade so they can install gas central heating systems as well, so they must be CORGI registeredcontractors.

  • Resolved Question: Central Heating problem, radiator does not heat?

I have a new central heating system utilising a small bore plastic tube circuit. One radiator barely ever warms up. I have just had the plumber take it off the wall and check it was not blocked and there seemed to be water flowing to the two tap connections. I am running the heating system now at full heat on the thermostat and am turning radiators on and off around the house except the one near the thermostat. The one radiator in the bath room refuses to heat what can be done?

  • Resolved Question: central heating problem new baxi BBU 15 HE boiler?

I have just had a new Baxi Bermuda BBU 15 HE (back boiler) fitted, it is the first time my plumber has fitted one and is having problem's balancing the central heating. The old boiler was a baxi 552 gravity HW pumped CH so had to be changed to fully pumped he did this using Y plan system. He also replaced 4 rads and new TRV's to 3 old rads(15mm copper pipe used on replaced rads). The problem seams to be on the return flow. When the boiler is turned on it starts alright it calls for HW & CH and the temp rises from eg 20 to 75 very fast and the boiler stops firing. Any help would be much appreciated as no one my plumber knows have fitted this boiler.

  • Resolved Question: Combination boiler doesn't heat up radiators?

Today is the first time that I put the central heating on in a long long time, but the boiler isn't putting any heat into the radiators. We have hot running water but no heating, there is also a small drip which looks like it's coming from inside the boiler itself, but as I am not a plumber I don't know what I'm looking for, also, when I checked it this morning the pressure gauge on the front was reading zero. Two of the pipes that come out of the bottom of the boiler are connected by a flex with a tap on each end, one end was open and the other was closed, I opened the tap which was closed which then made the pressure increase. I'm still stuck with no heating though, if anyone can help so that I can fix it myself then I would be very grateful. Ps: I don't know if it helps but the make of our boiler is Vaillant and it is only 2 - 3 years old. Many thanks :)

  • Resolved Question: Plumbers/Heating Engineers or anyone who works in that field ?

Some time before christmas the central heating broke which meant we went through all winter without central heating or hot water. Now my dad reckons he knows a little about plumbing so he tried to sort it out himself, to my knowledge he changed the pump for the hot water tank and flushed the system through to get rid of limescale or something. We have also had two plumbers come round and have a look at it and they did something but to no avail. I am not entirely sure what is going on but here is my brief understanding. When we light the boiler it stays lit for all of 5 mins, we think this is because the water is being heated up but then something is getting too hot so possibly an override valve turns it off automatically. If anyone has any idea as to what is wrong and how it could be fixed i would be so very pleased Thank you for your time

  • Resolved Question: How much per hour is a plumber in London?

I have a bathroom re-fit to do. I have bought all the things I want to have put in (underfloor heating, wet room, basin, towel rail etc) but have no idea what's a normal fee. The job would be in central london, and a friend told me it would take 10 days to 2 weeks. Any idea what I'll be paying?
